What Diamondhead lacks in beachfront property, it more than makes up for with its rolling topography, two professional 18-hole golf courses, multiple ponds, lakes, and abundant wildlife. It's not uncommon to see deer grazing in front yards or to find traffic momentarily stopped for a family of geese crossing the road.

A Community with Deep Roots Diamondhead was originally developed in the 1970s by out-of-state developers with the goal of creating a retirement community near New Orleans. The completion of Interstate 10 through Hancock County and the establishment of the Stennis Space Center in the 1960s brought significant attention to the area. The Diamondhead Property Corporation, with developments across several states, saw potential in the Mississippi Coast and purchased 6,000 acres in August 1969. Despite the devastating impact of Hurricane Camille shortly after the land purchase, the project moved forward when developers observed minimal damage to the property from the air.

By June 1973, more than 3,700 residential lots had been sold, marking the beginning of what would become one of the Gulf Coast’s most unique planned communities.

A Planned Community with Modern Amenities Diamondhead was meticulously planned with a Homeowners Association to maintain the community's quality and appeal. The city boasts a wide range of facilities designed to attract both new buyers and long-term residents. Among these amenities are a Yacht Club, tennis courts, a marina, swimming pools, parks, trails, and a Country Club with multiple dining options. The city’s two 18-hole golf courses are a major draw, alongside shopping centers, numerous restaurants, and even a bowling alley.

For those who enjoy the water, many Diamondhead properties offer river or canal access, and all homeowners have access to the private Diamondhead Marina and boat launch. The community even includes a local airstrip, with some homes offering direct access for aircraft, allowing homeowners to store planes right on their property.
